Alhaji Audu Sule-Katagum, former Deputy Governor of Bauchi State, has passed away at the age of 69. He died in the early hours of Saturday at Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja, according to family and state sources.
Katagum served as Deputy Governor of Bauchi State from 2018 to 2019 under former Governor Mohammed Abubakar. A prominent traditional title holder, he was the Wazirin Katagum and had earlier served as Chief of Staff to the Bauchi State Government.
Reacting to the news, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed expressed deep sorrow over the loss, describing it as a significant vacuum in the state’s political, professional, and traditional spheres.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, Governor Mohammed described the late elder statesman as “a loyal public servant, a distinguished professional, and a patriotic son of Bauchi State.”
The Governor highlighted Katagum’s contributions during his tenure as Deputy Governor and as Chairman of the Governing Board of the Adamu Tafawa Balewa College of Education, Kangere.
“Beyond politics and public service, the deceased distinguished himself as an accomplished Architectural Engineer whose professional expertise contributed significantly to the physical growth and infrastructural development of Bauchi State,” the statement said.
Governor Mohammed praised the late Wazirin Katagum for his wisdom, integrity, humility, and commitment to unity and progress, noting that his legacies would continue to benefit future generations.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family, the Emir of Katagum, the Katagum Emirate Council, and the people of Bauchi State, praying for the repose of the deceased’s soul in Aljannatul Firdaus.
