West Africa’s largest carrier, Air Peace, has received formal approval from Brazil’s National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) to operate scheduled international passenger, cargo, and mail services between the two countries.
The authorisation, outlined in ANAC Ordinance No. 19.449/2026, marks a significant milestone in Air Peace’s ambitious push to establish itself as a major global airline. It paves the way for direct air links between Nigeria and Brazil, a route long sought to strengthen historical, cultural, and commercial ties between the two nations.
The development comes as the Nigerian carrier rapidly broadens its international footprint. Air Peace has already applied to authorities in Canada and the United States for landing rights in Toronto and New York, while finalising plans to resume flights to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, and Guangzhou, China. It will also launch three weekly services to Manchester in the United Kingdom in the coming months.
On the regional front, the airline recently announced new routes to Libreville (Gabon), Conakry (Guinea), Bamako (Mali), and Douala (Cameroon), with operations scheduled to begin on August 1. Air Peace’s existing long-haul network includes London and Barbados, alongside an extensive web of West African destinations such as Accra, Freetown, Dakar, Banjul, Monrovia, and Abidjan.
A direct Nigeria-Brazil service is expected to slash travel time dramatically from nearly two days with multiple connections to approximately seven hours on a non-stop flight. Officials anticipate the route will boost tourism, trade, investment, and people-to-people exchanges while enhancing cargo operations across South America and Africa.
“Brazil added to its growing portfolio of international destinations and additional strategic routes in the pipeline, Air Peace is taking another major step towards its ambition of becoming Africa’s preferred airline and a respected global aviation brand,” the airline stated.
The Brazilian approval underscores Air Peace’s transformation from a dominant regional player into an increasingly influential international carrier, filling a critical connectivity gap between Nigeria and South America.
