Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has declared that his administration has shifted from policy formulation to tangible results, positioning Imo as a model for leadership transformation across Nigeria.
Speaking on Thursday at an event organised by the African Leadership Organisation in the United Kingdom, Uzodimma addressed members of the House of Lords and African leaders under the theme: “From Vision to Velocity: Driving Africa’s Next Wave of Growth and Leadership – The Imo Experience.”
The governor highlighted measurable achievements in job creation, infrastructure development, and youth empowerment as proof of Imo’s progress. “We have moved from policy statements to practical delivery and are now producing templates for leadership transformation that other states can adopt,” Uzodimma said.
According to him, a strategic business template has generated over 20,000 jobs, while investments in digital technology and skills development have created an additional 60,000 employment opportunities.
Through the Imo Digital City and SkillUp Imo initiatives, more than 60,000 young people have been equipped with skills for the digital economy. “ The government understands that the next economy will be built by young people with skills,” the governor added.
On infrastructure, Uzodimma revealed that his administration has constructed more than 140 roads across the state in the last six and a half years. He also announced the designation of 140,000 hectares of land for the Orashi Special Energy Free Zone, leveraging the state’s gas resources to drive industrialisation and reliable power supply in the South East region.
The governor presented the “One Kindred, One Business” initiative as another replicable model, under which communities pool resources to co-own enterprises. The scheme has established over 600 businesses and created 20,000 jobs. He noted that the Federal Government has adopted the model for possible replication in other states.
Uzodimma attributed Imo’s success to what he described as the four pillars of “velocity” — strong institutions, infrastructure, innovation, and citizen safety. “Velocity is never an accident. It is built where institutions are strengthened, where infrastructure is laid, where innovation is welcomed, and where the citizens are safe,” he said. “Assemble these four, and a government stops announcing and begins to deliver.” He urged investors to take advantage of the enabling environment in Imo State.
At the event, the African Leadership Organisation conferred on Governor Uzodimma the African Leadership and Good Governance Award. He described the honour as one he deeply values and commended the organisation for amplifying African voices on the global stage.
