Abuja — Chief of Staff to the President, Mr. Olufemi Gbajabiamila, has issued a strongly worded legal notice to Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi (also referred to as Prince Matthew), giving him 72 hours to retract what he describes as “false, malicious, and defamatory” allegations made during a press conference.
In a cease-and-desist letter dated July 6, 2026, and signed by Kemi Pinheiro, SAN, of Pinheiro LP, Gbajabiamila demanded an immediate public apology, the complete removal of the offending material from all media and online platforms, and a written undertaking that no further allegations would be made against him.
The letter stems from a press conference held by Adeyemi on June 25, 2026, which was widely circulated across print, electronic, and social media. According to Gbajabiamila’s legal team, the statements falsely accused the Chief of Staff of demanding 48 percent of a take-off grant for the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council, receiving N400 million through proxies for appointments, abusing his office, manipulating security agencies, involvement in fraudulent budget processes, corruption, and even murder with a subsequent cover-up.
The solicitors described the allegations as “entirely without factual foundation” and argued that they were calculated to portray Gbajabiamila as corrupt, dishonest, and unfit for public office.
“Gbajabiamila has never met, communicated with, or had any personal or official relationship whatsoever with Prince Matthew,” the letter stated, emphasising the reckless and malicious nature of the claims.
The legal team further criticised Adeyemi for taking the matter to the media instead of approaching competent investigative or judicial authorities. They noted that several of the allegations touch on matters already before the Federal High Court in Abuja, where Adeyemi is facing trial in Charge No. FHC/ABJ/CR/652/2026 on charges including forgery of presidential appointment letters and letter-headed papers.
The letter warned that failure to comply within 72 hours would leave Gbajabiamila with no option but to initiate both criminal and civil proceedings. The planned civil suit seeks N10 billion in aggravated and exemplary damages, to be paid to charity or charities of his choice, along with a perpetual injunction restraining further defamatory publications and a mandatory order for retraction and apology.
The apology, if published, must appear with equal prominence in at least five national newspapers and across all platforms where the original allegations were disseminated.
