Police in Ondo State have arrested Alex Ikuesan, son of the Olubo of Obenla Kingdom, Oba Andrew Kolawole Ikuesan, and a relative of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa, in connection with the death of Prince Engineer Ojogo Malo.
Ikuesan was taken into custody at the Okitipupa Divisional Police Station and later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Ondo for further questioning. Malo was found dead on a roadside on October 3, 2026, days after a series of confrontations tied to disputed financial transactions involving millions of naira.
Family members and a lawyer who attempted to mediate the dispute say the conflict centred on claims involving a N14 million payment, a N12 million soft loan and a N6.2 million debt linked to petroleum products sold on credit. Malo’s brother, Barrister Francis Malo, said Ikuesan had operated a family-owned filling station in the Ulu 2 area with Malo’s permission and received N14 million in business support from him. That sum was later recovered, according to the family, but disagreements over the petroleum debt persisted.
Francis Malo said Ikuesan insisted Malo was responsible for the N6.2 million because his manager had sold fuel on credit. An oil dealer, Tosin Ogono, who supplied products to the station, told the family that Malo had paid approximately N18.7 million for supplies and that the manager could not substantiate the outstanding debt claim.
Lawyer Wale Odusola, who knew both men and tried to settle the matter, said Ikuesan first approached him claiming Malo owed him money. A meeting in his office nearly resolved the issue until an altercation erupted when Malo attempted to show phone evidence of a N12 million transfer. Odusola said the discussion established that Malo did not personally owe Ikuesan but had stood surety for customers who bought petroleum on credit. Malo accepted responsibility for recovering the N6.2 million while counter-claiming that Ikuesan still owed him N2 million from the earlier loan. The meeting ended without agreement after the confrontation.
A further meeting on October 2 at the office of lawyers Omolegbon Odusola and Omotola Odusola also became contentious, according to Francis Malo. After that session, neighbours reportedly alerted Malo that men linked to Ikuesan had visited his residence. Malo telephoned his brother and the lawyers overnight, expressing fear that Ikuesan was after his life. He left home early on October 3 and was later found dead.
Francis Malo said Ikuesan admitted to police that he had gone to Malo’s house.
The family is demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of anyone found responsible, calling on security agencies and the state government to ensure justice. Police have not publicly released details of the investigation or announced any formal charges against Ikuesan. The cause of Malo’s death and the full circumstances surrounding it remain under inquiry.
