A Federal High Court in Warri, Delta State, has convicted and sentenced 10 people to prison terms ranging from two to three years for criminal conspiracy and illegal dealing in petroleum products after they pleaded guilty to the charges.
Justice H.A. Nganjiwa handed down the sentences on Friday, November 6, 2026. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s Benin Zonal Directorate brought the case on a one-count charge.
The convicts are James Terry, Gift Ezewu Godfrey, Obidi Peter Obi, Anthony Onyebuchi Edekobi, Victor Ataria Sule, Jubril Abubakar, Auwal Aliyu, Nnaemeka Nwobodo, Victor Edem and Sunday Ndem Eyere.
James Terry and Gift Ezewu Godfrey each received two years’ imprisonment with an option of a N300,000 fine. Obidi Peter Obi, Victor Ataria Sule, Jubril Abubakar, Auwal Aliyu, Nnaemeka Nwobodo and Victor Edem were each sentenced to three years’ imprisonment with an option of a N300,000 fine. Anthony Onyebuchi Edekobi received three years with an option of a N350,000 fine, while Sunday Ndem Eyere was given three years with an option of a N400,000 fine.
One of the charges, filed against Victor Edem Udo, stated that on or about August 8, 2026, at Koko in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State, he dealt in Automotive Gas Oil that did not meet expected quality standards. The offence was charged under Section 1(18)(a)(ii) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act.
All 10 defendants pleaded guilty when the charge was read. Prosecution counsel Francis Jirbo then urged the court to convict and sentence them.
The EFCC said the arrests followed intelligence from the Office of the National Security Adviser about suspicious activities in Koko. Security operatives investigated the information, leading to the arrests and subsequent prosecution.
The convictions form part of the commission’s continued efforts to enforce laws regulating the petroleum sector and prosecute those involved in the illegal handling and distribution of petroleum products.
