Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, has announced the closure of multiple so-called “miracle centres” across the state’s locations notorious for facilitating examination malpractices.
Speaking in Umuahia on Wednesday during the launch of the AbiaFirst educational innovation program, Governor Otti emphasized his administration’s commitment to reforming the education sector and creating a conducive learning environment for students.
“We have taken decisive steps over the past 20 months to combat exam malpractices, resulting in the shutdown of several outlets designated as miracle centres,” Otti stated.
He highlighted various educational reforms under his leadership, including improved teacher welfare, the recruitment of 5,000 new teachers, and the rehabilitation of schools, all aimed at nurturing future leaders in the state.
In his welcome address, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Elder Goodluck Ubochi, explained that the AbiaFirst initiative seeks to transform Abia’s education system. The program focuses on enhancing teaching quality, improving basic and secondary education, integrating digital learning, and strengthening career education and skills development.
Governor Otti reiterated his administration’s dedication to ensuring that Abia’s education sector meets global standards, positioning students for academic excellence and future success.
