Suspected bandits launched a deadly attack on Ajaawa, a community near Ogbomoso in Oyo State, on the night of May 29, 2026, leaving at least three people dead and another resident seriously injured with cutlass wounds.
According to local sources, the attack sparked panic among residents and travelers, with some road users forced to abandon their journeys and return to safer locations after reports of the violence emerged. The incident has heightened anxiety across the Ogbomoso axis, coming just days after the abduction of teachers and pupils in the area.
As of the time of reporting, security agencies had not released an official statement, while details surrounding the attack remained unclear.
Meanwhile, the principal of Community High School, Esiele, Mrs. Rachael Alamu, who remains in captivity alongside other abducted teachers and students, has renewed her appeal to President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to negotiate with their captors.
In a viral video recorded from captivity, Alamu claimed that a recent rescue attempt worsened the hostages’ situation and alleged that one captive had been selected for execution in retaliation. She urged the government to pursue dialogue rather than force, stressing that the lives of the abductees were at risk.
Another abducted teacher, Mary Akanbi, also appealed for negotiations, asking the Oyo State government to meet the kidnappers’ demands to secure the safe release of the victims.
The latest attack and the continued captivity of teachers and schoolchildren have further intensified concerns over rising insecurity in parts of Oyo State, particularly within communities around the Ogbomoso region.
