The All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded its review of petitions arising from its nationwide primary elections, resulting in the alteration of several initial winners as the party prepares for the 2027 general elections.
The ruling party disclosed that it received and thoroughly vetted more than 700 complaints from aggrieved members following the primaries. According to APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the National Working Committee (NWC), guided by recommendations from the appeal committee, carried out a painstaking audit of every grievance.
“Some were successful and some were not. Those successful led to some corrections in some constituencies,” Morka said in a telephone interview. “In a few cases, there were upsets based on the outcome of the petitions and decisions were made on them.”
The exercise, which the party described as part of broader peace-building efforts ahead of the 2027 polls, has produced a final list of candidates. The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has also proposed a meeting with APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, to further strengthen unity within the party. With the window for petitions now closed, Morka emphasized that the current lineup of candidates is definitive.
“The people today who are filling the forms are those who emerged originally without challenge and those who emerged out of the appeal process. This is the final position of the review,” he stated.
The party’s immediate priority is ensuring all validly nominated candidates complete and submit their INEC Form EC9 (candidate nomination affidavit) for upload to the electoral commission’s portal.
“Having a public release of the list is not our priority now,” Morka explained. “Though we shall share the list publicly, right now, the priority is to get those who are our candidates to get their forms filled and meet the INEC deadline.”
He added that candidates have already been notified and are actively engaging with the party leadership to ensure a smooth nomination process.
