Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has emphasized the inevitability of death while paying tribute to the late Afenifere leader, Pa Ayo Adebanjo.
During his visit to Adebanjo’s residence, Atiku described the elder statesman’s passing as a monumental loss to Nigeria, highlighting his lifelong contributions to unity and peace.
“It is quite true that this house has hosted me a couple of times. What did I take away from this house? The virtues that Pa Adebanjo lived and preached throughout his life,” he said.
He added, “His loss is a monumental loss to his immediate family and to those of us who admired him and tried to emulate his ways of life and his belief in the unity of this country.”
Pa Ayo Adebanjo passed away on Friday, February 14, 2025, at the age of 96 in his Lekki, Lagos home, according to his family.
Since his passing, several dignitaries have visited his home to pay their respects, including former Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, and the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
Atiku, while offering his condolences, acknowledged Adebanjo’s influence and guidance.
“We all have to go one day, but with some grace from God, he lived a worthy life, one that can rarely be compared to many others,” he said.
He further pledged to honor Adebanjo’s legacy by standing by his family and upholding the values he stood for.
“He was a father, an adviser, a guide in what we have set out to do for this country. He always made sure to tell us the truth and nothing but the truth. So we will continue to honor him by honoring the family he left behind,” Atiku added.
