Suspected bandits have reportedly levied a N60 million fine on 12 communities in Zamfara State, accusing them of aiding recent military operations in the region.
Security analyst Bakatsine revealed the development on Monday via his verified X handle, naming the affected communities as Koloma, Dan Hayin Zargado, Zargado, Dan Godabe, Sabuwar Tunga, Makini, Bubaka, Yelwa, Bahwada, Koda, Manya, and Kabusu—all located within Maru and Maradun Local Government Areas.
According to the post, the bandits have issued threats of renewed attacks should the communities fail to pay the imposed amount, leaving residents in fear for their safety.
“Bandits have imposed a N60m levy on 12 Zamfara communities… for allegedly aiding military raids. Residents fear attacks if they don’t pay,” Bakatsine wrote.
As of the time of filing this report, security agencies and government authorities have not released any official statement regarding the incident.
