Former Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in Bayelsa State, Udengs Eradiri, has officially defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to infrastructure development and peace in the Niger Delta as his motivation.
Eradiri, who registered with the APC in Ward 10, Constituency 2, Yenagoa, highlighted several projects initiated by the Tinubu administration through the Dr. Samuel Ogbuku-led Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). These include potable water, shore protection, solar streetlights, and a one-kilometer road in his Agudiama/Ekpetiama community.
He emphasized that these interventions were not limited to his locality but had benefited several other communities across the Niger Delta. According to him, the region has experienced improved infrastructure and stability due to the efforts of the NDDC and Tantita Security Services.
Additionally, Eradiri praised the federal government’s plans to remodel the local secondary school and construct a National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) lodge. He also commended Tinubu for signing the Maritime University Bill into law and approving the University of Technology and Environment in Ogoni, which he believes will further enhance development and stability in the region.
The former Bayelsa Commissioner for Youths and later Environment also lauded the Tinubu administration for appointing Bayelsa indigenes to key federal positions, including the Head of Service, the Minister of State for Petroleum, and the Managing Director of the NDDC. He credited the government’s initiatives for boosting oil production and accelerating the construction of the East-West Road under Minister of Works, Dr. Dave Umahi.
“With all that President Tinubu has done for my community and the Niger Delta through Tantita, the NDDC, and the Ministry of Petroleum, it is only right for me to join the APC and support his Renewed Hope Agenda,” Eradiri stated.
He urged his supporters and stakeholders in the Niger Delta to align with the president’s vision, stressing that Tinubu’s administration has significantly contributed to reducing crime and fostering economic growth in the region.
Reflecting on his admiration for Tinubu, Eradiri recalled their interactions during the PRONACO meetings in 2006, describing the president as a leader who has always championed a restructured Nigeria.
“The APC government has brought tangible development to my community—water projects, shore protection, solar streetlights, and road construction. More projects, including a lodge and school renovation, are also in the pipeline. The best way to show appreciation is to join and support the administration.
“The Tinubu government has ensured that young people in the Niger Delta are gainfully engaged through the Tantita project, which has improved oil production and reduced crime. His administration’s tax reforms will further drive innovation, encourage governance at all levels, and create jobs,” he added.
Eradiri pledged to work with APC stakeholders to reposition the party in Bayelsa and contribute to the federal government’s developmental agenda. “I see that this government has a lot to offer Nigeria, and I don’t want to be an onlooker. I want to participate and contribute to the country’s revival and reorganization,” he declared.
