Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has firmly denied rumors suggesting he is planning to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The clarification comes in response to comments made by Senator Ned Nwoko, representing Delta North, who recently defected to the APC. Nwoko, speaking at a political event in Agbor, Ika Federal Constituency, claimed that Governor Oborevwori was making moves to join the APC but was “not welcome” in the party.
The event marked the official defection of members of the Delta Unity Group—a socio-political organization—from the PDP to the APC.
Reacting to Nwoko’s statement, Governor Oborevwori, through the Director-General of the Delta State Orientation and Communications Bureau, Fred Oghenesivbe, described the senator’s claims as “laughable and baseless.”
“We don’t have time for Ned Nwoko,” Oghenesivbe stated. “This matter has been addressed severally—by myself and even the Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu. The governor is not defecting.”
Oghenesivbe further challenged Nwoko to provide evidence to back up his assertions.
“Did Governor Sheriff tell Nwoko he was joining the APC? Journalists should ask Nwoko where he got that information. If the governor never approached him, then on what basis is Nwoko claiming he isn’t welcome in the APC? It’s simply illogical.”
Governor Oborevwori reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, dismissing the rumors as mere political distractions.
