Former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has disclosed that he met with ex-President Muhammadu Buhari before resigning from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
El-Rufai, a founding member of the ruling party, officially announced his defection to the Social Democratic Party (SDP) on Monday, citing internal issues within the APC as his reason for leaving.
Speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa on Wednesday, he revealed that he consulted several political figures before making his decision, including Buhari, who led Nigeria until 2023.
“I left the APC with his full knowledge,” El-Rufai stated. “I visited him on a Friday and informed him of my decision to leave the party because I always consult him on important matters.”
When asked about political godfathers, El-Rufai responded, “I have people I consult in everything I do. I inform them of my plans, and if they advise me against something, I listen. My first godfather is Muhammadu Buhari. As for the rest, I won’t mention them to avoid unnecessary pressure.”
