A young farmer, Idris Salisu Danwanzan, has raised concerns over the destruction of his cassava farm, allegedly by herdsmen, in Kokona Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.
Danwanzan, who shared his ordeal on Facebook on Wednesday, expressed deep frustration after returning to his farm for the first time in a month, only to find it completely devastated.
“You’d be surprised if I told you this is my cassava farm. After a month away, this is what I met. I can’t even estimate how much I’ve spent,” he wrote. “Any herdsmen responsible for this—Allah sai yasaka mini [may God repay them].”
Although the extent of the damage is yet to be officially assessed, Danwanzan noted that he had invested substantial resources into the project, which is now ruined.
This incident underscores the persistent tension between farmers and herders in various parts of Nigeria, particularly in the Middle Belt region, where disputes over land and grazing rights continue to escalate.
In a related development, two young men were reportedly killed in Akpam Village 2, Karu Local Government Area, also in Nasarawa State, in an attack by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
According to eyewitness accounts, the victims—aged 23 and 24—were attacked after confronting herders who allowed their cattle to graze on mango trees near their residence. The altercation allegedly turned violent, resulting in a fatal knife attack.
These incidents add to growing calls for improved security measures and conflict resolution strategies in rural communities across the state.
