Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Abubakar Kyari, has credited President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s policy interventions for the recent decline in food prices across the country.
Kyari made this assertion on Wednesday in a statement via his X account after visiting Agbeyewa Farm in Ekiti State.
“Contrary to the claims of naysayers, we did not import food. The recent drop in food prices across Nigerian markets is a direct result of the deliberate efforts of our president and leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, to ensure food affordability for all Nigerians,” he stated.
His remarks come amid criticism of Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly from former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai. El-Rufai had faulted the administration’s handling of food inflation, arguing that, “You don’t reduce food inflation by destroying domestic agriculture through importation, for instance.”
Meanwhile, the latest Consumer Price Index (CPI) report from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) indicates that food inflation has dropped to 26.09%, following a CPI rebase.
