A federal lawmaker representing Obokun/Oriade Federal Constituency in Osun State, Oluwole Oke, has urged former Governor Rauf Aregbesola to reconcile with President Bola Tinubu by apologizing and making peace.
Oke, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), made this statement in a social media post on Sunday, emphasizing that if he were in Aregbesola’s position, he would “go, beg, and prostrate” before Tinubu.
His remarks come amid heightened political tensions in Osun State following the decision of Aregbesola’s faction, Omoluabi Progressives, to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC) due to unresolved disputes with the party’s mainstream leadership.
The division stems from a long-standing feud between Aregbesola and his successor, Adegboyega Oyetola, as well as reports of a rift between Aregbesola and Tinubu.
“If I were in his shoes, I would go and beg, prostrate, and make peace with my principal, PBAT [President Bola Ahmed Tinubu],” Oke wrote.
He further stated that if he were an APC member in Osun, he would work towards reconciling Aregbesola and Oyetola, stressing that political conflicts do not lead to prosperity.
“As we know, ‘Ija o dola’ – fighting doesn’t bring wealth,” he added.
While acknowledging Aregbesola’s political influence in Osun, Oke also called on the PDP to take advantage of the APC’s internal crisis by bringing the former minister into their fold.
“The PDP must act fast, pay the necessary dowry, and bring this ‘bride’ into their party,” he said.
According to Oke, Aregbesola still commands significant support in Ife/Ijesa Senatorial District and could mobilize at least 20,000 votes, particularly in Ijesa North and Ijesa South.
He concluded by predicting that Aregbesola would remain a crucial player in Osun politics, saying, “Baba Kabiru is a factor. Keep this post and check back after 2026.”
