Nine surveyors have been abducted by gunmen in Ondo State while working at a site in the Ilu-Abo area of Akure North Local Government.
Sources revealed that the kidnappers contacted the victims’ families, initially demanding ₦100 million for their release. However, after several pleas, the ransom was reduced to ₦50 million. A source, who spoke anonymously, disclosed that ₦20 million had been raised, but the abductors rejected the offer, insisting on the full ₦50 million.
Meanwhile, in response to the rising cases of kidnappings and killings, women in Akure, the state capital, took to the streets in protest on Tuesday. They gathered at the residence of the Ejemikin of Akure, High Chief Oluwole Omotayo, condemning the escalating insecurity in the state.
The demonstrators, mostly women, marched from Ijemikin to the Governor’s Office in Alagbaka, urging Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to take swift and decisive action against kidnappers, suspected killer herdsmen, and other criminal elements threatening the peace of the state.
