Birnin Kebbi — Armed men suspected to be bandits abducted a High Court judge from his residence in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State in the early hours of Sunday.
Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was taken from his home along Zogirma Road shortly after returning from Sokoto, a reliable source said. The attackers fired sporadically during the raid but left other occupants of the house unharmed.
Kebbi State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bashir Usman confirmed the incident. “I can confirm that Hon. Justice Faruku Hassan Bunza was abducted from his residence in Bunza around midnight,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Umar Muhammad Hadejia has ordered the immediate deployment of tactical and intelligence teams. Operatives are searching identified locations, including forest areas, with the aim of securing the judge’s safe release, according to the police spokesman.
A senior official of the Kebbi State High Court, who requested anonymity, described the abduction as a painful development for the judiciary. Court management has already held talks with security agency heads in the state to coordinate efforts for his swift and unharmed rescue.
