The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revealed that concerns for his safety kept him away from the Presidential Villa during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking during a media chat in Abuja on Wednesday, the former Rivers State governor stated that he distanced himself from the Villa and the National Executive Council (NEC) meetings due to his strong opposition to the Buhari-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government.
“I was a governor at the time, and I saw how the ruling party under Buhari was fighting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). I stood my ground and said it wouldn’t work. I said we must survive. I never went to the [Presidential] Villa—never! In fact, I stopped attending NEC meetings because I feared for my life,” Wike said.
He also criticized current PDP governors, accusing them of working against the party’s survival.
“These current governors, their interest is to kill the PDP,” he alleged. “I never hid my intentions or played double roles. No matter what anyone says about me, I was clear about where I stood.”
Wike’s remarks highlight ongoing tensions within the PDP as he continues to call out party leaders for what he perceives as a lack of commitment to the party’s future.
