Residents of Nkaramuche in the Ihiagwa community of Owerri West, Imo State, have welcomed the start of continuous electricity supply through the Orashi power project, thanking Governor Hope Uzodinma for the development.
Indigenes, traders, small-business owners, and the management, staff and students of Shekinah British International School described the restored power as a major boost to daily life and local economic activity. They praised the governor as a responsive leader and pledged ongoing support for further projects that improve conditions across Imo State.
Community members also credited Dr Obinna George-Smart Unegbu, managing director of the school and known locally as Aririerimba Ihiagwa, for persistently pressing the state government on the issue. Residents said his advocacy helped bring the project to their area.
A phone-accessories seller identified only as Udo said the change had brought visible relief after years of unreliable supply. “Today, you can see a very big smile on my face. It is a thing of joy to see this light after many years of suffering light issue,” he said, adding that many had doubted constant power would arrive.
Trader Basil Edoziem similarly thanked both the government and Unegbu, urging the school director to continue working for the community.
Unegbu himself called the development “a prayer answered.” He noted that Nkaramuche is understood to be the first community in the state to receive steady supply under the Orashi project. He linked the power improvement to earlier road repairs that followed local appeals, and expressed confidence that other needs would also receive attention. On behalf of the school community and Nkaramuche residents, he formally thanked the governor and reaffirmed collective support for the administration.
The community had long struggled with erratic electricity. Residents previously raised concerns about poor roads, which have since seen upgrades. The Orashi power project is the vehicle through which the latest improvement was delivered.
Community leaders and residents have indicated they will continue to engage the state government on remaining development priorities while offering cooperation to the current administration.
