The Imo State Independent Electoral Commission has fixed Saturday, November 7, 2026, as the new date for local government elections across the state’s 27 councils.
ISIEC chairman Chief Charles Ejiogu announced the date in a statement, saying it followed the postponement of the polls originally scheduled for September 26 and consultations with the Imo State chapter of the Inter-Party Advisory Council.
An expanded stakeholders’ meeting will be announced soon. At that meeting, the commission will release the amended election timetable and guidelines arising from the postponement.
ISIEC apologised to political parties, chairmanship and councillorship aspirants, stakeholders and the public for the inconvenience caused by the delay. The commission restated its commitment to holding peaceful, transparent and credible elections in all 27 local government areas.
