The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has restored four previously suppressed State House of Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi States following court judgments.
The constituencies are Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, and Yagba West II in Kogi State.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, announced the decision in a statement on Friday.
Haruna said the commission has fixed August 21 to 25, 2026, for political parties to conduct primaries for candidates seeking to contest the restored seats. The period will coincide with the primaries for bye-elections to fill vacancies in several other constituencies.
Those bye-elections cover the Gombe/Kwami/Funakaye Federal Constituency of Gombe State, Disina and Sakwa State Constituencies of Bauchi State, Udu State Constituency of Delta State, and Dawakin Kudu State Constituency of Kano State. Elections for the vacancies have been scheduled for September 19, 2026.
INEC stated that all other activities and deadlines already contained in its revised timetable for the 2027 general election will also apply to the restored constituencies.
“For the avoidance of doubt, all other timelines and activities contained in the already published revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the 2027 General Election shall apply to the restored Constituencies,” the commission said.
Political parties have been directed to notify INEC of the dates of their respective primaries before they are held.
The commission said the restoration forms part of its commitment to ensuring the affected constituencies participate fully in the electoral process and reaffirmed its dedication to credible, inclusive and transparent elections.
