The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to implement the new national minimum wage and other benefits for judicial workers or face an indefinite strike.
In a communique released on Wednesday after an emergency meeting at the JUSUN Secretariat in Abuja, the union announced that the ultimatum begins on Thursday, February 13, 2025, and expires on Wednesday, February 19, 2025.
JUSUN warned that if their demands are not met within this period, an indefinite strike will commence on Thursday, February 20, 2025, potentially disrupting judicial activities across the country.
The union is demanding the full implementation of the new national minimum wage of N77,000 and other entitlements, which have reportedly been extended to other public sector workers but not judicial staff.
This latest ultimatum follows a previously issued 21-day notice, which expired without action from the Federal Government.
According to the communique, JUSUN called for the urgent intervention of the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Hon. Justice Kudirat Motonmori Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, to ensure the immediate resolution of the issue.
“The seven-day ultimatum commences on Thursday, February 13, 2025, and ends on Wednesday, February 19, 2025. Failure to implement our demands within this period will result in the commencement of an indefinite strike from Thursday, February 20, 2025,” the statement read.
JUSUN urged the Federal Government to act swiftly to prevent disruptions in the judiciary, emphasizing that failure to address their grievances could severely impact the administration of justice.
