The Katsina State Government has released more than ₦328 million to support 650 medical students enrolled in accredited universities across Nigeria and abroad under the first phase of its 2026 Medical Students’ Allowance Scheme.
The General Manager of the Katsina State Hospital Services Management Board, Muhammad Nazir Shehu, made this known in a statement issued by the Board Secretary, Abu Usman.
According to the statement, Governor Dikko Umaru Radda approved the disbursement of ₦328,123,392.35 as part of the administration’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare sector through human capital development.
Shehu explained that the scheme benefits medical students studying in 33 accredited institutions and is designed to reduce the financial pressure associated with medical education and training.
He described the programme as a long-term investment aimed at producing a skilled and dedicated healthcare workforce capable of addressing the state’s growing medical needs.
The board also assured beneficiaries of transparency and accountability in the management and distribution of the funds.
Students were encouraged to use the allowance responsibly, maintain academic excellence, and uphold professionalism and ethical standards throughout their training.
Shehu further revealed that additional phases of the allowance scheme would be introduced to provide continued support for medical students facing the high cost of medical education.
The government noted that the initiative is part of broader efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state through sustained investment in education and manpower development.
