Former Deputy Governor of Imo State, Prince Eze Madumere, has praised the Faculty of Health Science Students’ Association (FOHSSA) of Imo State University for organising a free medical outreach, describing good health as the foundation for education, productivity, creativity and sustainable development.
Madumere spoke while addressing participants at the outreach held at Imo State University, Owerri. He stressed that no society can achieve meaningful progress without a healthy population and highlighted the value of preventive healthcare initiatives in reducing disease burden through early detection, timely intervention and public awareness.
He noted that the outreach reflected the true essence of the medical profession, calling service to humanity the highest calling of healthcare practitioners. Students who devote their time, knowledge and skills to improving lives, he said, are already demonstrating the qualities of responsible professionals and future leaders.
Madumere commended FOHSSA for taking healthcare beyond the classroom into the community, describing the initiative as a practical demonstration of leadership, compassion and social responsibility. He urged the students to remain focused on their studies while sustaining their commitment to community service.
The outreach provided a range of free services, including Body Mass Index (BMI) assessment, vital signs checks, HIV screening, eye examinations, blood sugar tests, malaria screening, medical consultations, health education and counselling. Madumere observed that the intervention would benefit many residents with limited access to quality healthcare.
He also appreciated OCCEEJ Diagnostics and other partners for supporting the programme, noting that collaboration among educational institutions, healthcare providers and public-spirited individuals is vital to building a healthier Imo State.
Speaking on his vision for the state, Madumere called on stakeholders to remain hopeful, stating that his “Journey of Grace” initiative has developed a structured blueprint aimed at improving healthcare delivery and the overall welfare of the people. He reaffirmed his commitment to supporting programmes that promote quality healthcare, youth development and community well-being.
“I have the capacity, acumen, dexterity, reach and contacts to deliver effective representation and speak for the people. I represent the real deal, and a new Owerri Zone is possible by the special grace of God,” he said.
