Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has filed fresh petitions against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and one Dr. Sandra Duru, accusing them of criminal conspiracy, defamation, and cyber-related offenses.
The petitions were addressed separately to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.
According to the documents submitted through her counsel, Senator Ehiogie West-Idahosa, Akpoti-Uduaghan alleges that Akpabio and Duru orchestrated a calculated campaign aimed at tarnishing her image and endangering her life. The petition cites defamation, cyberstalking, and an attempted assassination as part of the alleged smear operation.
“The allegations against me are completely false and are part of a wider conspiracy to damage my reputation and silence my voice,” Akpoti-Uduaghan stated. “I am genuinely concerned for my safety and that of my family due to continued harassment and intimidation.”
The senator’s legal team claims that Dr. Sandra Duru, who allegedly operated under the alias “Prof. Mgbeke,” initially presented herself as a supporter. However, Duru reportedly began demanding payments for creating favorable narratives and generating digital support. Upon Akpoti-Uduaghan’s refusal, Duru allegedly initiated a character assassination campaign against her.
“We believe the evidence clearly shows a coordinated effort to defame and endanger our client through false accusations and media manipulation,” her legal team asserted.
Furthermore, the petition suggests that Senate President Akpabio may have a retaliatory motive, linking the alleged campaign to an earlier incident in February 2025, where Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan publicly accused him of sexual harassment.
The petition, dated May 15, 2025, urges both the IGP and AGF to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the alleged attempt on her life, and to scrutinize the involvement of third-party collaborators who publicly endorsed defamatory broadcasts against her.
“The actions taken against our client amount to a coordinated criminal enterprise that violates multiple laws,” the petition stated. “We respectfully urge your offices to carefully investigate these allegations and ensure that justice is served, regardless of the social or political standing of those involved.”
