The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) Owerri Branch is launching its highly anticipated Law Week with a compassionate outreach today, May 20, 2025, as it visits the Widows, Orphans and Destitute Care Centre (Mercy Home), located at No. 2, New Cross Hospital Road, Ugwuorji, behind NNPC Filling Station, Orji.
This exclusive visit, reserved for members of the NBA Owerri Executive Council and the Law Week Committee, underscores the branch’s commitment to social responsibility and community impact ahead of its transformative Law Week events.
The visit to Mercy Home sets a meaningful tone for the week, which officially begins tomorrow, May 21, 2025, with a star-studded opening ceremony at Villa Garden Hotels and Suites, New Owerri.
As previously reported, the ceremony will feature a powerful keynote address by renowned human rights advocate Prof. Chidi Odinkalu on “Reshaping the Legal Practice and Justice Delivery: The Future of the Legal Practice.” Chaired by Hon. Justice Chioma Nwosu-Iheme, Ph.D, JSC, the morning session will include remarks from dignitaries such as the Attorney General of Imo State, the NBA President, and the Governor of Imo State, alongside the presentation of the Orient Journal.
The afternoon session on Day 1 will dive into “The Role of the Judiciary in Promoting Economic Growth in Nigeria,” with a lecture by Hon. Justice Peter Obiorah and discussions led by legal heavyweights including Chief Emeka Obegolu, SAN, Ph.D, Emeka Ozoani, SAN, Muyiwa Akinboro, SAN, and Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, Esq.
