President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Dr Olugbemisola Titilayo Odusote as the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, making history as the first woman to head the institution since its establishment in 1962.
The appointment was confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga. According to the statement, Odusote’s appointment takes effect from January 10, 2026, and is for a four year tenure.
Dr Odusote, who is 54 years old, currently serves as the Deputy Director General and Head of the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School. She will succeed Professor Isa Hayatu Chiroma, whose eight year tenure ends on January 9, 2026.
She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from Obafemi Awolowo University and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1988. She later earned a Master of Laws degree from the same institution with a specialisation in company and commercial law.
Dr Odusote furthered her studies in the United Kingdom, where she obtained a Doctor of Philosophy in Law from the University of Surrey. She was also a visiting scholar at Nottingham Trent University.
She joined the Nigerian Law School in 2001 as a lecturer and has risen through the ranks over the years. She has served in several leadership roles, including Head of the Academic Department, Director of Academics and Head of Campus.
According to the statement, she has published extensively in both local and international law journals and has presented academic papers at various legal education conferences. She has also served on several committees of the Council of Legal Education and the Nigerian Bar Association.
As Director General, Dr Odusote will provide academic leadership, oversee administrative management and guide the strategic direction of the Nigerian Law School across all its campuses nationwide. She will also serve as the primary link between the institution and key legal bodies such as the Council of Legal Education, the Body of Benchers and the Nigerian Bar Association.
