A 27-year-old Nigerian national has been sentenced to 60 months in federal prison for his role in a money-laundering and wire-fraud scheme linked to the sexual extortion of a young man in Pennsylvania who later died.
Afeez Olatunji Adewale was sentenced Monday by U.S. District Judge Joel H. Slomsky in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The judge also ordered three years of supervised release after his prison term, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Adewale was extradited from Nigeria to the United States in February 2026 and pleaded guilty in April. He was the last of three Nigerian defendants prosecuted in the case.
U.S. Attorney David Metcalf said the sentencing closes the prosecution of all three men. “All three defendants have finally been brought to justice,” Metcalf said. “I hope that their arrests, extradition, and prosecution make clear that the DOJ will go after those terrorizing our young people no matter where the scammers and sextortionists may be.”
Authorities said Adewale was arrested in Nigeria on Aug. 17, 2023, during a joint operation with the FBI targeting suspected sexual extortionists who targeted victims in the United States. He was extradited on Feb. 13, 2026, through cooperation involving the Justice Department’s Office of International Affairs, the FBI Legal Attaché in Abuja, Nigeria’s Attorney General, the Federal Ministry of Justice, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.
His co-defendant Samuel Olasunkanmi Abiodun, 26, was extradited in August 2024, pleaded guilty to the same core charges, and received a five-year sentence in June 2025. Imoleayo Samuel Aina, 27, also known as “Alice Dave,” pleaded guilty to additional counts including cyberstalking and receiving proceeds of extortion; he was sentenced to six years in October 2025.
Wayne A. Jacobs, special agent in charge of FBI Philadelphia, said the case demonstrates that criminals cannot evade justice by operating from abroad.
Abington Township Police Chief Patrick Molloy credited federal partners for expanding the investigation beyond local limits and expressed hope the outcome offers some measure of relief to the victim’s family.
The case was investigated by the FBI’s Fort Washington Resident Agency and the Abington Township Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick Brown prosecuted.
