The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is currently holding a closed-door meeting at the party’s national headquarters in Abuja. The meeting is presided over by the PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum.
This gathering comes just two days after the Supreme Court dismissed a motion seeking a stay of execution on a High Court ruling that removed Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s National Secretary and replaced him with Sunday Udeh-Okoye.
Security at the PDP headquarters was notably tight, with operatives from the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, and the Civil Defence Corps stationed around the premises. Earlier, tensions flared as party staff clashed with thugs and supporters loyal to the embattled former National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.
A PDP staff member who witnessed the altercation told journalists, on the condition of anonymity, that the conflict began when Anyanwu’s supporters attempted to prevent some NWC members from entering the venue for their routine midweek meeting. However, they were eventually overpowered by party staff, private security personnel, and police officers attached to the secretariat.
Following the confrontation, additional security forces were deployed to the area to prevent further disruptions.
