LAGOS — The Lagos State Police Command has successfully rescued a 14-year-old boy, Hassan, who was abducted in the Olodi-Apapa area of Lagos. The rescue followed a swift and coordinated operation in response to a reported case of kidnapping.
According to a statement by the command, the incident was reported on May 1, 2025, at about 2:50 p.m. The kidnappers had demanded a ransom of N20 million for the boy’s release.
Acting on intelligence, officers were deployed to the agreed ransom drop-off point at Total Filling Station, Wema Bridge, Apapa, where 25-year-old suspect Musa Shaibu was apprehended. Subsequent investigations led operatives to a hotel in Ajegunle, where the victim was found unharmed and reunited with his family. The hotel manager, Remilekun Ajilola, 41, was also arrested and is assisting with ongoing investigations.
The rescue is one of 12 major cases handled by the command in the last two weeks. In that time, 27 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including kidnapping, murder, defilement, armed robbery, vandalism, cultism, and unlawful possession of firearms.
Recovered items include two firearms, seven rounds of ammunition, a vehicle, a tricycle, three battle axes, three cutlasses, charms, and other prohibited items.
In a related development, police officers responded to a distress call on April 27 in Alagbado, where suspected cultists attacked a 25-year-old man, identified as Quadri, with machetes. Two suspects, Riliwan Afuape, 26, and Bamidele Ayobami, 29, were arrested, while the victim was taken to Ile-Epo General Hospital for treatment.
Similarly, on April 28, two suspected armed robbers were rescued from mob justice in the Suru Alaba area of Ajegunle. The suspects, Azeez Anafi, also known as “Stainless,” and Damilare Brown, both 25, were taken into custody.
Police say the duo allegedly shot and killed a 35-year-old motorcyclist, Abubakar, during an attempt to steal his motorcycle. A locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and a suspected stolen tricycle were recovered. The victim’s body has been deposited at a public morgue for autopsy.
Command spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin reaffirmed the commitment of the police under Commissioner Olohundare Moshood Jimoh to protect lives and property. He assured Lagos residents of ongoing efforts to combat crime and maintain peace across the state.
