At least seven people were killed and several others injured in two separate attacks in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State on Wednesday.
In the first attack, insurgents targeted farmers working on their farmlands, killing five people and leaving others critically wounded. The assault took place 15 kilometers from Damboa town along the Damboa-Maiduguri highway.
A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) revealed that security forces recovered the victims’ bodies later in the evening after survivors raised the alarm.
“They were found in a pool of blood, brutally hacked with cutlasses and axes,” the source said.
In a separate incident, a military convoy hit a landmine near Sabon-Gari in Damboa LGA, resulting in the deaths of two CJTF members and injuries to several others. The convoy was en route to repair a bridge destroyed by insurgents, a critical structure for commercial and security operations along the Damboa-Biu highway.
“Two CJTF members died on the spot, while at least five others sustained serious injuries and are receiving treatment at General Hospital, Damboa,” an eyewitness reported.
The victims are set to be buried on Thursday morning in accordance with Islamic rites.
