The Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, has called on Northern Nigerians to disregard politically motivated criticism of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, emphasizing the administration’s ongoing development efforts in the region.
In a statement released on Friday through his Special Assistant on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Goga, Matawalle highlighted several major infrastructure projects in the North that have been revived under Tinubu’s leadership. He cited the Zaria-Gusau-Talata Mafara-Sokoto expressway and the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano highway as examples of long-abandoned initiatives that are now back on track.
“President Tinubu has shown a strong commitment to addressing the infrastructural and security challenges of the North,” the former Zamfara State governor stated. “Many of these projects had been stalled for years, but are now receiving the attention they deserve.”
Matawalle also addressed criticisms leveled against the administration, alleging that some political figures are spreading misinformation to obscure their own records. He claimed that certain members of the northern elite are behind campaigns aimed at discrediting the government.
“Some individuals who failed to deliver meaningful development in the past are now trying to rewrite history by attacking the current administration,” he said.
In terms of security, the minister noted the progress made through initiatives like Operation Fansan Yamma, which he said has led to more peaceful conditions during recent holiday periods such as Easter and Ramadan.
He concluded by urging unity among Northerners and called for continued support for the federal government’s development agenda.
“The North stands to benefit from a collective effort focused on progress rather than division,” Matawalle said.
