Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma has told leaders of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors that the group continues to operate fully and has not been sidelined by the newly formed Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.
Speaking in Abuja on Tuesday, Uzodimma, who serves as the Ambassadors’ director-general, said President Bola Tinubu specifically instructed him to calm members’ concerns that the campaign council had made their organisation redundant.
“Mr. President has told me to tell you that nothing has changed, and Renewed Hope Ambassadors is still there,” the governor said.
Uzodimma described the Renewed Hope Ambassadors as the president’s organic structure with a lasting role that extends past the election. He contrasted this with the Presidential Campaign Council, which he said is mainly an election-focused body of which the Ambassadors are also members.
“The Presidential Campaign Council, which all of us are members, will come and be used for election purpose. And after that, we will continue. We are not going anywhere, you are like the barracks. Soldier will come, soldier will go, barrack will remain,” he told state coordinators, directors and other leaders.
The governor convened the emergency meeting after reports that some individuals in certain states were suggesting the Ambassadors would be dissolved. He dismissed any idea of rivalry with other structures supporting Tinubu’s re-election and stressed that all groups would collaborate from the presidential campaign office.
“We are still Renewed Hope Ambassadors, and we are here… We are going to work with the presidential campaign councils… because we need every vote in Nigeria,” Uzodimma said. He added that every eligible Nigerian vote for the president is needed.
The Renewed Hope Ambassadors function as a sustained support network for the president, distinct from the time-limited campaign machinery.
What happens next
Uzodimma announced that the Ambassadors, working with the Progressive Governors’ Forum and local government chairmen, will hold a national political summit in the third week of September 2026. The gathering will include elected and appointed political office holders from across the country, with President Tinubu and his running mate, Senator Kashim Shettima, expected to address participants.
