Lere Olayinka, Special Adviser on Public Communication to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has accused former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar of sowing the seeds of anti-party activities that continue to haunt the party.
Olayinka made the statement on Thursday in response to criticisms surrounding the recently conducted PDP South-South Zonal Congress.
Earlier, Atiku’s spokesperson, Paul Ibe, had alleged that Wike was being used by President Bola Tinubu to weaken the opposition party. Ibe cited a PDP letter to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which canceled the South-South Zonal Congress due to operational constraints.” The letter, signed by PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, and Secretary, Sunday Ude-Okoye, assured INEC that a new date and venue would be communicated.
However, despite the party’s directive, Wike and his camp proceeded with the congress, with former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke in attendance. The exercise saw the reelection of Dan Orbih as the PDP South-South Zonal Vice Chairman.
Reacting to Ibe’s claims, Olayinka dismissed the criticism, accusing Atiku’s camp of hypocrisy and political desperation.
“The seed of anti-party your @atiku sowed in the @OfficialPDPNig in 2003, 2007, and 2014 is still haunting the party today,” Olayinka stated.
He also questioned the timing of the PDP’s letter to INEC, alleging inconsistencies in its submission and reception.
“Did you bother to check the date this letter was written and when it was received by INEC? A letter that took five days to trek from Wadata Plaza to the INEC office and was received three days after the congress was held is what you are celebrating?” he asked.
Olayinka further ridiculed Atiku’s repeated presidential bids, urging his supporters to abandon what he called an ”elusive ambition.”
“Better tell your serial presidential election contester and loser to go and rest. Those pushing the Atiku is coming narrative should fear God and stop deceiving themselves. It is time for Daddy to rest now and let the PDP breathe,” he declared.
