X is discontinuing its long-running revenue sharing programme for creators and replacing it with a new initiative focused on original content.
The platform announced the change on Friday through its official Creators account. The existing revenue sharing scheme will formally end on 7 September 2026. Creators already enrolled will continue to earn until that date, with their final payout expected around 11 September 2026.
From 8 September, eligible creators will be able to apply for the new Original Content Rewards Program. The scheme is designed to reward those who produce original material and make meaningful contributions to conversations on the platform, rather than recycled or low-effort content.
X said the shift aims to better support the voices that make the platform valuable day to day, people sharing breaking news, expert insights, unique experiences, creativity and cultural commentary.
Creators who have already completed identity verification and linked a valid payout method will not need to repeat those steps. Eligibility can be checked in Creator Studio under the Original Content Rewards section. Once approved, participants will earn under the new programme’s terms and conditions.
The company framed the move as an evolution of how it compensates creators, emphasising originality over volume or engagement farming.
