Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, has dismissed criticisms from opposition parties, describing their actions as mere attempts to gain attention and political relevance.
Speaking while receiving Hon. Nnamdi Ibekwe, the member representing Bende North Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Labour Party (LP), Otti said the opposition’s activities are not a cause for concern.
“We are not bothered by the noise coming from the opposition. Many of them aren’t genuinely contesting elections — they’re just looking for recognition,” the governor said. “Some only want their names to appear on primary election lists, even though they know they can’t win. Others are merely projecting themselves for future relevance — making noise now with the hope of being acknowledged in years to come.”
Governor Otti emphasized that his focus remains on delivering the mandate entrusted to him by the people of Abia State, rather than being distracted by political theatrics.
He also welcomed Hon. Ibekwe into the Labour Party, stressing that his defection was not influenced by pressure but was based on conviction.
“I didn’t pressure him. He joined of his own volition because we don’t place too much emphasis on platforms — it’s about service and delivery,” Otti added.
Earlier, Hon. Ibekwe said his decision to join the Labour Party was inspired by the governor’s impressive track record, which he described as “unprecedented” in the state.
