Leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ovwian Ward 7, Udu Local Government Area of Delta State, have urged members to remain steadfast and not be lured into defecting to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The warning was issued during a well-attended meeting at the Ovwian Community Town Hall, where PDP stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to reclaiming the party’s mandate at all levels—from local government councils to the presidency.
Former PDP Ward 7 leader, Mr. Odjeku Matthew Uparan, expressed concern over the actions of some individuals who were once welcomed into the party but are now attempting to mislead others. He reassured members that the leadership remains committed and will not betray the confidence reposed in them.
“There is no other party in Ovwian Ward 7 apart from the PDP,” Uparan declared. “Don’t let anyone deceive you into joining the APC. If they come to you, tell them to stay with their APC—we are staying with our PDP.”
Also speaking, PDP chieftain Mr. Lawson A. Oghoifo criticized former members who defected to the APC, describing them as individuals who had previously caused unrest within the party.
He noted that their departure has brought relief and unity to the PDP. “Since they left, we’ve found peace. That alone is something to celebrate,” Oghoifo said. “We’re not running because we have nothing to hide. It’s only those with guilty consciences who flee. We’re not thieves—so we’re staying in PDP.”
The meeting ended with renewed resolve among members to remain loyal to the party and work towards its victory in future elections.
