Sam Amadi, former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), has asserted that President Bola Tinubu cannot be defeated in the 2027 presidential election without the involvement of Peter Obi.
Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
Amadi’s statement comes amid widespread reports that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has offered Obi the vice-presidential slot in a proposed coalition ticket, with Atiku reportedly planning to serve a single term if elected.
Despite the proposal, Obi has maintained that his primary focus is on building a coalition to fight hunger, poverty, and the deteriorating state of healthcare and education in Nigeria, rather than pursuing political positions.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Tuesday, Amadi—who currently serves as Director of the Abuja School of Social and Political Thoughts—emphasized Obi’s critical role in any successful attempt to unseat Tinubu in 2027.
“The truth is that without @PeterObi, there is no way anyone can defeat Tinubu,” Amadi wrote. “What this truth implies is for you to figure out. This explains the melancholy and aggression on this street.
“The circle can be squared with respect and deep good faith,” he added.
