The North-Central Forum of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has firmly rejected calls for President Bola Tinubu to replace Vice President Kashim Shettima ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja, the Forum’s Chairman, Alhaji Saleh Zazzaga, dismissed the demand made by a group known as the North-Central Renaissance Movement, which had urged Tinubu to pick a running mate from the North-Central zone as a condition for securing the region’s support.
Zazzaga made it clear that the North-Central APC Forum was not part of the agitation and reiterated its earlier endorsement of the Tinubu-Shettima ticket for the 2027 polls.
“The North-Central APC Forum disassociates itself from these calls,” Zazzaga said. “Our endorsement of President Bola Tinubu for the 2027 election includes Vice President Kashim Shettima. We are satisfied with the Vice President’s performance and the collaborative relationship between him and the President.”
He criticized what he described as “antics” from certain groups attempting to sow discord within the party, stating that Tinubu’s administration has made considerable progress in repositioning the country for sustainable development.
The Forum emphasized that it still stands by its earlier pledge to deliver six million votes from the North-Central in 2027, citing the administration’s favorable treatment of the region through key appointments and infrastructure projects.
“We appreciate the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation held by Senator George Akume from Benue, as well as the strategic ministerial roles given to our zone,” the statement noted.
Ministers from the North-Central currently heading critical ministries include:
- Ministry of Justice – Prince Lateef Fagbemi, SAN (Kwara)
- Ministry of Information and National Orientation – Mohammed Idris (Niger)
- Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction – Prof. Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda (Plateau)
- Ministry of Women Affairs – Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim (Nasarawa)
- Ministry of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs – Zephaniah Bitrus Jisalo (FCT)
- Ministry of Water Resources and Sanitation – Prof. Joseph Utsev (Benue)
The Forum recalled that it had endorsed President Tinubu for a second term as far back as December 2024, citing numerous federal initiatives and appointments benefiting the North-Central region.
According to the statement, no previous administration has offered the region as much representation and infrastructural development as President Tinubu’s government.
“We believe President Tinubu’s leadership has positively impacted key areas such as security, infrastructure, the economy, and governance. His economic reforms are yielding results — from the stabilization of the Naira to improved oil production and increased foreign reserves.”
The Forum also pointed to the elimination of fuel scarcity and anticipated drop in fuel prices as evidence of the President’s effective policies in the petroleum sector.
Concluding, the North-Central APC Forum reiterated its support for the Tinubu-Shettima ticket and called on Nigerians to back the President for a second term.
“Just as we worked tirelessly for his victory in 2023, we are committed to ensuring President Tinubu’s reelection in 2027,” the statement read.
