The Senior Pastor of The Second Coming of Christ Ministry, Adewale Giwa, has asserted that President Bola Tinubu’s policies are anti-people and that a united opposition front, led by Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi, stands a strong chance of defeating him in the 2027 presidential election.
In an interview with on Monday, Pastor Giwa stated that Tinubu’s victory in 2023 was divinely orchestrated, which made it difficult for the opposition to unite at the time. However, he believes the political landscape could shift if former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, team up for the next election.
“An Atiku-Obi ticket can defeat Tinubu because the current administration has failed to impress the majority of Nigerians,” Giwa said.
He criticized Tinubu’s economic policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, saying it has only benefitted the wealthy while worsening the plight of ordinary citizens.
“The removal of subsidy is a major concern. It favors the rich and political elites but brings hardship to the poor. Any government that neglects the needs of the masses is anti-citizen,” he added.
Pastor Giwa emphasized that Tinubu could still secure a second term if Obi declines to run alongside Atiku, noting that unity within the opposition is critical to unseating the incumbent.
Meanwhile, Peter Obi recently clarified that his involvement in an opposition coalition is not driven by personal political ambition but rather by a commitment to combating poor governance, hunger, and poverty. He denied claims of having agreed to serve as Atiku’s running mate in 2027.
Outside of politics, Pastor Giwa also shared his views on the use of digital devices in religious practice. He argued that mobile phones cannot replace physical copies of the Bible in spiritual effectiveness.
“A phone cannot replace a hardcopy Bible,” he said. “Most Christians now go to church with their phones instead of the Bible. But the Holy Spirit does not interpret scripture through phones. Reading from the hardcopy Bible is more spiritual and impactful.”
He urged believers to use technology wisely and not allow it to distract from their faith.
