The embattled National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Samuel Anyanwu, has declared that he remains the legitimate occupant of the position, asserting that no internal party force can remove him.
Speaking at the ongoing Southeast PDP Zonal Stakeholders’ Meeting, Anyanwu maintained his authority, even referencing Julius Berger to emphasize the impossibility of his removal.
“I am the only National Secretary of the PDP, and no force—not even a Julius Berger crane—can take me out of this position,” he said.
He further challenged PDP governors, including Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, to publicly accuse him of receiving any form of inducement. According to him, he would resign immediately if such claims are made.
“I dare Governor Peter Mbah and any PDP governor to say I collected even a bottle of water from them. If any one of them does, I will resign immediately,” he stated.
Meanwhile, Senate Minority Whip, Osita Ngwu, appealed to the party to recognize the Southeast Caucus’s nominee, Sunday Ude-Okoye, as National Secretary. He urged the PDP leadership not to disregard the zone’s position, citing party precedents.
“Our appeal is for the party to consider our request in line with established precedents. The Southeast position should not be overlooked. We are not giving directives but making a sincere appeal for the unity and growth of the party,” Ngwu said.
The party has been grappling with internal discord over the rightful occupant of the National Secretary position following Anyanwu’s exit to contest the Imo State governorship election, which he lost. In his absence, the Southeast Caucus nominated Ude-Okoye as his replacement.
Former Imo State governor, Achike Udenwa, also weighed in on the matter, stressing that the support behind Anyanwu is not greater than the will of the Southeast PDP Caucus.
