The All Progressives Congress (APC) gubernatorial candidate for the November 8 Anambra Governorship election, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, has pledged to secure victory for the party in the state.
Ukachukwu made this declaration on Monday while addressing State House correspondents after he and his running mate, Senator Uche Ekwunife, received the party’s flag from President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
According to him, the President tasked them with the responsibility of aligning Anambra with the federal government.
“He has given us a mandate to bring Anambra to the centre, and we intend to do just that. Anambra cannot continue as a one-party state,” Ukachukwu stated.
He recalled President Tinubu’s recent visit to Anambra, during which he witnessed the enthusiasm and readiness of the party’s supporters.
“The President saw firsthand how mobilized and charged our people are. He was impressed by the massive turnout that welcomed him,” Ukachukwu added.
Expressing confidence in their chances at the polls, Ukachukwu highlighted the defection of several political figures and support groups to the APC.
“I was previously a senatorial candidate under APGA. Now, I’ve joined the APC, bringing my supporters along. We also have members of the Labour Party, YPP, and other parties aligning with us. Over 80 groups are already on board, making APC the dominant force in the state,” he said.
He dismissed concerns about unseating the incumbent, noting that political upsets are not new in Nigeria’s electoral history.
“It wouldn’t be the first time an incumbent governor loses an election—it happened in Zamfara, Imo, and even here in Anambra. So, we are not fazed,” he concluded.
