Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has dismissed claims that the recent sealing of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Secretariat was politically motivated.
The FCT Administration on Monday sealed the PDP National Secretariat along with several other properties over non-payment of ground rent. The action has sparked criticism, with some alleging it was a targeted move against the opposition party.
Speaking to journalists in Abuja, Olayinka emphasized that the enforcement was part of a wider operation affecting over 4,000 properties across the capital.
“We are not engaging in politics. If this were a political witch-hunt, would we also have sealed Ibro Hotels, Access Bank, FIRS, and Total Petrol Station?” he questioned. “This is a standard enforcement operation, and it will continue until all identified properties are addressed.”
Olayinka reiterated that the ongoing clampdown was strictly based on legal and financial obligations, not party affiliations.
However, the PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, has criticized the move, vowing not to overlook what he described as an unjust action by the FCTA. Damagum condemned the seizure of the party’s headquarters and said the party would respond appropriately.
