A prominent figure in the All Progressives Congress, Alwan Hassan, has alleged that the majority of ministers who served during the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari should be facing prosecution over alleged abuse of office and corruption.
Speaking on the growing public attention on officials from the previous government, including former Attorney General Abubakar Malami and former Minister of Labour Chris Ngige, Hassan claimed that the Buhari era was marked by weak oversight and excessive freedom granted to cabinet members.
According to him, as many as 95% of those who held ministerial positions during the 8-year administration ought to be answering serious questions before the law.
Hassan argued that never in the country’s history had ministers operated with such minimal supervision, suggesting that this lack of control created room for misconduct.
He further recalled a past remark by Buhari himself, in which the former president reportedly advised his ministers to keep their records intact, warning that a time would come when they would be required to account for their actions in office. Hassan suggested that the statement may indicate that Buhari was aware of questionable practices within his cabinet.
