The investigation into allegations that older pupils repeatedly sexually abused four- and six-year-old children at a Local Education Authority primary school in Gangare, Plateau State, has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department.
Sources within the school, including parents and teachers, said the local police division has completed its preliminary inquiry and forwarded the case file to the office of the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department for further action.
The same sources expressed concern that the parents of the suspects are pressing for their release on bail, even after being informed of the results of physical examinations conducted on the suspects at the Police Clinic.
The alleged perpetrators were identified as Mustapha, 15; Sinan, 14; and Mubarak, approximately 25. The children said to have been abused have not been named in order to protect their privacy.
According to accounts given to SaharaReporters, the alleged abuse has been occurring since 2024, with older male pupils targeting younger children in Nursery 1 and Nursery 2. One teacher said a suspect confessed to repeatedly abusing the younger pupils and stated that he had been introduced to the acts by an older pupil who had earlier been expelled from the school over similar allegations.
Sources also claimed that earlier complaints were taken to the community head rather than formal law-enforcement and child-protection authorities. Meetings involving school officials and parents were said to have been held, with participants allegedly instructed to keep the matter quiet. Further incidents were later reported, raising concerns that the alleged abuse continued despite the earlier complaints.
The school’s headmistress, identified as Mrs Mary, did not answer calls or respond to text messages seeking comment. Plateau State Police Command spokesperson Alfred Alabo also did not answer calls or reply to a message.
