Meta Platforms has started rolling out new subscription services for Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp as the company moves to reduce its dependence on advertising revenue.
The new “Plus” subscription tiers will give users access to premium features, including profile customisation tools, advanced reactions, expanded engagement options and enhanced Story functions.
Users can subscribe to Instagram Plus, Facebook Plus or WhatsApp Plus for monthly fees ranging from $2.99 to $3.99, depending on the platform.
Announcing the launch, Meta’s Head of Product, Naomi Gleit, said the company plans to continue expanding the subscription packages with additional features over time.
According to her, the plans are designed mainly for creators, businesses and highly active users seeking more advanced tools across Meta’s platforms.
Meta also revealed plans to introduce professional subscription packages for creators and businesses, alongside AI-focused plans for everyday users. These services will operate under a broader subscription brand known as “Meta One.”
As part of the initiative, the company is testing two Meta AI subscription plans priced at $7.99 and $19.99 per month. The premium AI package is expected to provide stronger computing performance, improved reasoning functions, and enhanced image and video generation tools.
The AI subscription tests are scheduled to begin next month in selected countries, including Singapore, Guatemala and Bolivia.
Meta clarified that the new services will operate separately from its existing Meta Verified programme, which focuses on identity verification, account protection and customer support.
Instagram Plus subscribers will gain access to features such as Story rewatch analytics, unlimited custom Story audience lists, and the option to extend Story visibility beyond the usual 24-hour period.
The service will also allow users to promote Stories for wider reach, view Stories anonymously, search Story viewers, and publish posts directly to their profiles without displaying them in followers’ feeds.
Additional benefits include animated Super Heart reactions, custom app icons, personalised bio fonts and more profile pinning options.
Facebook Plus is expected to offer similar premium features, while WhatsApp Plus will include customised themes, personalised ringtones, advanced chat pinning tools, list management features and exclusive sticker packs.
The launch represents another step in Meta’s evolving monetisation strategy following the introduction of paid verification services for Facebook and Instagram in 2023.
At the time, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said the paid verification model—similar to the system introduced by Elon Musk on X, formerly known as Twitter—was intended to improve platform security and authenticity while creating new sources of revenue for the company.
