Abuja – Hon. Chike Okafor, the member representing the Ehime Mbano/Ihitte Uboma/Obowo Federal Constituency in Imo State, has been named the Most Outstanding Member of the House of Representatives from the South-East zone for 2026 by the HallowMace Foundation.
Okafor, who chairs the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, received the prestigious award at a colourful ceremony held at the NAF Events Centre in Abuja on Thursday night. The award was presented by Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe and Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr. Chibuzor Okereke.
In his acceptance speech, the lawmaker dedicated the recognition to his family, his constituents, the leadership of the House of Representatives, and the people of Nigeria.
The HallowMace Foundation National Legislative Awards, according to its CEO, Anderson Osiebe, were determined through a transparent and rigorous process that combined public online voting with extensive consultations involving key stakeholders, including the National Assembly Press Corps, the Nigerian Conference of Speakers, the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria (PASAN), and the National Assembly Legislative Aides Forum (NASLAF).
Osiebe described the awards as a credible platform for celebrating excellence and distinction in legislative service at both national and state levels.
The event was chaired by former Senate President, Senator Ameh Ebute, while Professor Abubakar Olanrewaju Sulaiman, Director-General of the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (NILDS), served as Special Guest of Honour. Sulaiman commended the Foundation for its role in promoting legislative excellence.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who also received an award, was represented by Senator Tony Nwoye. Senate Majority Whip, Senator Mohammed Monguno, presented awards on behalf of the organisers. The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, was represented by
Mr. Adebayo Anthony Adepoju.
Other notable recipients included Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Hon. Awaji-Inombek Dagomie Abiante, and Hon. Abdussamad Dasuki. Special recognition was also given to former House Committee on Foreign Affairs Chairperson, Hon. Nnenna Elendu-Ukeje, and others.
The Speaker’s wife, Hajiya Fatima Abbas, received an award for her leadership of the Association of Spouses of Members of the House of Representatives.
In the state assembly category, the Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Hon. Abdulkarim Lawan, bagged the Long Service Achievement Award.
Journalists covering the National Assembly were also recognised, with AIT’s Onyediya Agwu Nancy emerging as Best Senate Correspondent, TVC’s Joke Adisa as Best House Correspondent, and Lukman Babalola as Best Online Correspondent. Legislative aides and National Assembly staff were similarly honoured.
