First Lady Oluremi Tinubu on Wednesday appealed to voters in the South-East to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, telling them she wants to enjoy a better Nigeria in her old age.
She made the call in Owerri during an empowerment programme for women in Imo State. Speaking in pidgin, she said: “Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better. I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age, so I will work for Nigeria, for my old age.”
The event forms part of a wider scheme run through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals. It is expected to reach 18,500 women nationwide. In the South-East, 500 women from each of the five states are to receive items including generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders and ovens.
Imo Governor Hope Uzodimma added support for another 2,000 women in the state, raising the total number of beneficiaries in Imo to 2,500. In response, Mrs Tinubu announced an extra N100,000 cash grant for each of them.
She said the programme recognises the role of women in nation-building and aligns with the President’s focus on economic growth and sustainable development. She urged the recipients to use the support to improve their livelihoods and support their families.
Governor Uzodimma praised the First Lady’s efforts and the Federal Government’s interventions in Imo. He said the people of the state were happy with the President’s performance and would stand with him in the 2027 election. “We will stand firmly behind our beloved President in January 2027,” he said.
During the visit, traditional rulers in Imo conferred the chieftaincy title of Osodieme on Mrs Tinubu.
